CHANDIGARH: A 14-year-old girl is six weeks pregnant after she was raped in a case similar to that of the 10-year-old girl who had delivered a baby girl last year after she was repeatedly raped by her maternal uncles in the city.
While police on Monday night registered a case against unknown person, sources said the accused has been identified and is known to the family. Police said the accused lived in Unnao in Uttar Pradesh.
A police officer said the family originally belonged to Unnao. He said the family had gone to their native place and stayed there for a month. The officer said the girl was probably raped by a relative during this period of time. Initially, the family did not want to report the matter to the police. Cops received the complaint from doctors of a hospital, where the girl was taken for treatment. Police said the family wanted to abort the baby.
The officer said the complaint was filed by the father, who had said his daughter was raped by an unidentified person. According to the complaint, the family came to know about the pregnancy when the girl complained of pain in her abdomen on Monday. Family members took her to a hospital, where after medical examination, doctors confirmed she was six weeks pregnant.
DSP (central division) Krishan Kumar, said a case has been registered under Sections of rape and POCSO Act. “The accused has been identified and will be arrested soon,” he said.
