Fight Over Parking Costs Man His Life

Neighbour held, remanded in one-day police custody

A 47-year-old man, a father of two, died after he fell unconscious following a fight with a neighbour over parking at Hallo Majra on Sunday night. The victim was allegedly pushed by the accused after which he fell unconscious and was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMSH), Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Sources said the victim, identified as Ashwani Kumar, who owned a book-binding shop at Hallo Majra, had an altercation with the accused, Ramesh, who parked his Mahindra pick-up in front of his shop. “My brother asked the accused to park the vehicle on the other side of the road following which he pushed my brother to the ground. The accused then left from the place and my brother came home after which he fell unconscious,” said Shekhar, victim’s brother.

The victim was rushed to the hospital by his younger brother Satinder, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The police said that the victim did not have any injury marks on his body. The autopsy was conducted and the body handed over to his kin.

The police have recorded the statements of eyewitnesses.

Inspector Gurjit Kaur, SHO of the Sector 31 police station, said the accused, Ramesh, had been arrested in the case. “We are verifying the role of his nephew, who is also alleged to be involved in the incident,” the SHO said. The police have registered a case under Section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC at the Sector 31 police station.

The accused was produced in the court on Monday, which sent him on one-day police remand.
