Nokia 6 2018 Launch Set For Today

HMD Global is expected to launch the 2018 refresh of its mid-level Nokia 6 phone in China today. The original Nokia 6, to recall, made its debut in China so HMD deciding to take the wraps off its successor in the same country isn’t all that surprising. The Nokia 6 2018, however, isn’t supposed to be a drastic revamp of the original Nokia 6, which may irk some potential buyers though. It would still be interesting to see what HMD has in store.

Leaks and rumours suggest the Nokia 6 2018 will boast of more or less the same design scheme as the original Nokia 6, with the biggest difference being in the positioning of the fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner is said to lie on the back in the case of the Nokia 6 2018. This however doesn’t mean that the Nokia 6 2018 will ship with an 18:9 screen as reports suggest it’s likely to stick with the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio.

Rumoured specs of the Nokia 6 2018 include: a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor clubbed with 4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, 16-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front camera, and a 3,000mAh battery. The Nokia 6 2018 will most likely ship with Android Oreo software out-of-the-box.

The original Nokia 6 is an all-metal smartphone carved out of 6000 series aluminum with chamfered edges and curved 2.5D Gorilla glass on the front. It has a physical home button on the front that also houses a fingerprint scanner, and is flanked by touch-based capacitive keys which are backlit. The power button and the volume rocker lie on the right, while the SIM card slot rests on the left. It comes with a standard Micro USB 2.0 port and also supports USB OTG.

The Nokia 6 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor clubbed with 3GB of RAM under the hood, and 32GB of internal memory which is further expandable by up to 128GB via a micro-SD card slot. The speaker setup on-board the Nokia 6 comes with dual amplifiers and supports Dolby Atmos sound technology. The phone is backed by a 3,000mAh battery and supports fast charging.

On the camera front, the Nokia 6 comes with a 16-megapixel shooter on the back with f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Autofocus and dual-LED flash. The rear camera is capable of recording 1080p videos. On the front, the Nokia 6 comes with an 8-megapixel camera that’s also capable of recording 1080p videos.
