Dean of University Instruction (DUI) and officiating Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University (PU) Prof Meenakshi Malhotra launched the website of the Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) today.
PUTA president Prof Rajesh Gill and secretary Prof JK Goswami were among those others present.
Speaking on the occasion, the DUI said: “Unions have an important role to play. The authorities and the union have to work together. The central status for the PU is a demand of all of us. We have to work as a team. Most of our (authorities and PUTA) demands are same.”
She said: “We have to understand and trust each other.”
The DUI said she was a member of PUTA.
Earlier, Prof Rajesh Gill welcomed Prof Malhotra and thanked her for her gracious presence.
Prof JK Goswamy, secretary, PUTA, explained features of the new website and appreciated the efforts of Manmohan Shah, Satish Verma and Dr Keerti Vardhan, who had worked for developing the website.
Shah explained the features of the website, Twitter, blog and Facebook, where users can post their comments, making it a two-way communication.
Prof Gill described the launch of the website as a step ahead towards greater transparency through dissemination of information to the teaching community. She appreciated the joint efforts of PUTA executive members in making the body effective and vibrant.
